To ensure the reliability of our shackles, rigorous strength tests are conducted on a calibrated tensile test bench. In addition, for many products, you will receive a test certificate conducted under the supervision of Veritas, attesting to their compliance and measured performance.

These procedures allow us to provide you with products of the highest possible quality upon leaving our workshops. However, it's essential to understand that "zero risk" does not exist, especially since we cannot directly control your assemblies, the specific conditions of your use, or the environment in which our products operate.

Normal Use at 50% of the Minimum Breaking Load (MBL)
Under standard usage conditions, where the load applied to the shackle does not exceed approximately 50% of its Minimum Breaking Load (MBL), the primary limiting factor in its lifespan is generally not the immediate resistance to the load, but rather the cumulative effects of time and the environment.

Estimated Lifespan of Our Dyneema Textile Shackles
For our Dyneema textile shackles used under these normal conditions (up to 50% of the MBL) and properly maintained, we estimate their potential lifespan to be between 3 and 8 years.
This indicative estimate is highly dependent on several key factors:

• Exposure to UV Rays: Prolonged and intense exposure to sunlight degrades Dyneema fibers over time, even without an applied load. • Abrasion: Friction (against rough surfaces, other rigging components, etc.) wears down the sheath and potentially the core of the shackle, reducing its strength. Minimizing chafing points is crucial.

• Frequency and Type of Use: Very frequent use or use involving dynamic load cycles (shocks) will potentially reduce the lifespan compared to static or occasional use.
• Environmental Conditions: Exposure to aggressive environments such as salt water, sand, or extreme temperatures can impact longevity.

• Maintenance and Storage: Regular rinsing with fresh water after use in a marine environment, proper drying, and storage away from direct sunlight are essential.
Importance of Regular Inspection
The estimated lifespan is a guideline. The actual condition of your shackle is the only reliable measure. We strongly recommend visually inspecting each of your shackle before each use.

Carefully look for signs of wear such as:

• Cut or broken threads
• Excessive fuzzing ("pilling")
• Discoloration or cracking due to UV rays
• Localized thinning of the shackle body
• Any visible deformation or damage
When to Replace Your Shackles?
• Immediately if you notice any visible sign of significant damage or degradation during your inspections.
• Preventively, depending on the intensity of use and exposure conditions, even if the shackle appears to be in good condition, taking into account the estimated lifespan (between 3 and 8 years). Preventive replacement of safety components is recommended.
• When in doubt. If you have the slightest doubt about the remaining load capacity or the integrity of your shackle, don't take any risks and replace it.
